Webinars for Trainers: One that was and one that will be

Thank you to everyone who attended this month's train-the-trainer webinar! We discussed ideas for using MaintainIT resources in training. I highlighted resources that are available, talked about examples of trainings that are taking place, and asked the participants for ideas, too.

The greatest technology training resource MaintainIT provides is, of course, the Cookbooks. If there's a chapter related to your training topic, you can print it, distribute it, or simply use particular pieces and pages (use one of the resource lists, a checklist, a diagram, or a story, for example). One trainer said that she was able to use 'Meal Plan 3: How Much Help Should You Provide Laptop Patrons?' to provide staff training on that topic, saving herself hours of research and preparation time. I shared my own experiences presenting at last week's Northeast Kansas Library System's Tech Day. My presentation was based on 'Meal Plan 4: Getting the Technology Training You Need."

Check out the second item on the Get Involved page here on the MaintainIT website. You'll find a handful of handouts and training resources that have been designed to help people use MaintainIT resources in training.

I told the group about the audio files that are now available on the Library Spotlight page and played a portion of Helene Blower's inspiring clip. As a group, we brainstormed ways to use audio files in training, something I would like to do, but have not yet tried.

If you missed this month's session, you can listen to a recording of it here. We'll be offering train-the-trainer webinars like this each month. Please register to participate in next month's webinar, which will happen Wednesday, September 10th. In the September webinar, we'll share ideas for using MaintainIT resources in online training and will talk about best practices for online training, too.

If you use MaintainIT resources in the training you provide, will you let me know? I'd love to highlight your example in an upcoming webinar. Thank you! Hope to "see" you on September 10th!
